Iomega, an EMC company (NYSE: EMC) and a global leader in data protection, today announced two new models in its award-winning eGo Portable Hard Drive line: the new ultra-secure Iomega® eGo™ Encrypt Portable Hard Drive with hardware-based encryption for double data protection, and the new “black-on-black” super rugged Iomega eGo BlackBelt Portable Hard Drive with Drop Guard™ Xtreme data protection.
“Adding two exciting models to our eGo Portable Hard Drive lineup is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to having the most rugged and stylistic portable drives in the marketplace today,” said Peter Wharton, vice president of marketing, Iomega Corporation. “The eGo Encrypt Drive is a ruggedized silver bullet with enterprise-level encryption for all your important files, while the eGo BlackBelt Drive is a shock-absorbing black beauty of a portable drive that makes its own fashion statement. Two perfect holiday gifts for anyone with lots of important files and a flair for the extraordinary.”
Take your most sensitive data anywhere with confidence thanks to the new hardware-based encryption built-into the new USB-powered Iomega eGo Encrypt Drive. This shiny silver 320GB* portable hard drive has all the style of the famous eGo product line with the security bonus of government-grade 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), perfect for storing critical business data or a fortune in music files, videos and images.
Full-disc hardware encryption and password protection means the new eGo Encrypt Drive’s hard drive and all the individual files on it are always protected. Encryption software is pre-loaded and an easy-to-use management utility is included with the drive. Simply connect the eGo Encrypt Drive to a laptop or desktop computer via a USB port and you can read and write data at USB 2.0 speeds. To keep data secure on the eGo Encrypt Drive, if the USB cable is disconnected from the laptop or desktop at any time, the drive automatically “locks” and requires the owner’s password for data access.
With 320GB of storage, the eGo Encrypt Drive can store more than 1.2 million photos, 5,980 hours of music, or 480 hours of video.**
In addition to encryption, the eGo Encrypt Drive boasts Iomega’s Drop Guard Xtreme data protection feature. With the translucent Iomega Power Grip band in place on the eGo Encrypt Drive, data is protected from accidental drops up to seven feet – over twice the industry average.
Iomega eGo BlackBelt Portable Hard DriveThis ruggedized black beauty provides top-notch data protection in a cool black-on-black style that befits a secret agent or anyone else whose color scheme favors the dark of night. Its sleekly curved black chassis has the added protection of Iomega’s Drop Guard Xtreme feature, thanks to a matching black Iomega Power Grip band that protects data from accidental drops of up to seven feet (84 inches). Portable hard drives from other manufacturers can’t compete with this kind of ruggedized data protection.
The eGo BlackBelt Drive packs plenty of storage capacity with a 250GB 2.5-inch drive that is USB-powered for simple operation (no power supply required). The eGo BlackBelt Drive can carry up to 1,000,000 photos, over 4,625 hours of music or 375 hours of video.
